Ghana Grapples with Inflation as Government Charts Path Forward – President Mahama
In his 2026 State of the Nation Address, President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged that one of the most pressing challenges inherited by his administration was the high inflation rate, describing it as the “heaviest burden” faced by the government.

Speaking before Parliament, President Mahama highlighted the economic strains that high inflation has placed on households and businesses across the country, stressing the need for decisive policy interventions to stabilize prices and protect vulnerable Ghanaians.

“The high cost of living has affected every sector of our economy, and addressing this issue is our top priority,” he said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to sound fiscal management, investment in production, and measures to curb unnecessary expenditure.

Analysts say that inflation has been a key factor influencing consumer purchasing power and the overall economic confidence in Ghana. The President noted that tackling this challenge will require a combination of monetary discipline, support for local industries, and strategic social interventions to ease the burden on ordinary citizens.
President Mahama concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain patient as his administration implements reforms aimed at restoring economic stability and ensuring sustainable growth.
