The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a picket at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, over the government’s failure to clear outstanding payments owed to its members.
According to NAIS, its members are owed about GH¢50 million for supplying uniforms, house dresses, and school cloths to public Senior High Schools under the Free SHS program nationwide.
In a notice released ahead of the planned protest, the association said the debt has remained unsettled since 2023, despite repeated engagements and appeals to the relevant authorities. NAIS added that the prolonged delay has placed severe financial strain on suppliers, many of whom are struggling to sustain their businesses while continuing to provide essential services to schools.
“The picketing aims not only to draw the government’s attention to our plight but also to demand the immediate release of funds owed to NAIS members,” the statement said.
The association expressed hope that the peaceful protest would underscore the urgency of the matter and compel the government to take swift action to settle the arrears.
NAIS has also called on the media to cover the demonstration, noting that public attention and support would help ensure that suppliers’ concerns reach the appropriate authorities and stakeholders.
The picketing is scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Education on June 11, where suppliers will press for the payment of arrears that have been outstanding for over three years.
