Disregard False Reportage Circulating on News Portals

By Joseph Nana Yaw Cobbina

The increasing rate at which some media outlets fail to cross-check facts before reporting is deeply concerning and poses a threat to our democracy.

In response to a publication by Soiree News, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsueam, Hon. Ebenezer Cobbinah, has set the record straight, stating that there is no tension or conflict involving any individuals within the municipality.

He emphasized that the Assembly is working diligently to ensure that the community benefits from the government’s transition away from outdated community mining schemes toward licensed mining cooperatives.

These cooperatives will be group-based—not individual-based—providing legal rights tied to environmental standards and subject to regular monitoring.

Hon. Cobbinah cautioned media outlets against dragging his name into misleading reports, stressing that neither he nor the Assembly is engaged in any disputes as alleged.

He further called on the general public to disregard the publication, describing it as false and without merit.

According to him, it is contradictory and irresponsible for a single report to claim, on one hand, that he is in conflict with traditional authorities, and on the other, with the constituency chairman.

He assured that the Wassa Fiase community remains calm, with no tensions whatsoever.

Hon. Cobbinah also urged the media to contribute positively toward building a prosperous Ghana for future generations.

Finally, he reiterated that the Government of Ghana, under the leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to promoting mercury-free gold extraction to safeguard the environment.
