The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has announced that current transport fares will remain unchanged following the government’s decision to reduce the diesel regulatory margin by GH¢2 per litre.
The union explained that although the reduction in diesel prices is a positive development for commercial drivers, it is not enough to warrant a reduction in transport fares at the moment.
According to the GPRTU, transport fares are determined by several factors, including fuel prices, spare parts, vehicle maintenance costs, insurance, and other operational expenses.
The union said it will continue to monitor the situation and engage stakeholders before any decision is made on future fare adjustments.
The government’s diesel relief measure, announced by President John Dramani Mahama through the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), is expected to reduce the cost burden on transport operators and consumers.
The GPRTU urged drivers to comply with the approved fares and cautioned against arbitrary increases or reductions at various stations.
The announcement comes after calls from some sections of the public for transport fares to be reviewed following the reduction in diesel-related charges.
