The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed claims that private school candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are assessed using a different marking scheme from their counterparts in public schools.
WAEC said all BECE candidates, regardless of whether they attend private or public schools, are marked based on the same approved examination standards and procedures.
The Council explained that the marking process is guided by a uniform scheme developed to ensure fairness, accuracy and consistency in the assessment of all candidates.
This follows concerns raised by some members of the public suggesting that private school candidates receive different treatment during the marking of BECE papers, leading to disparities in results.
WAEC has urged parents, guardians and candidates to disregard such claims, describing them as false and misleading.
The examination body further assured the public that its processes remain transparent and designed to uphold the credibility of Ghana’s national examinations.
The Council encouraged stakeholders to rely on official information from WAEC rather than unverified reports circulating on social media.
