The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, after ruling that the prosecution failed to prove its case against her beyond reasonable doubt.
The decision overturns the earlier conviction by the High Court, which sentenced her to 10 years in prison for offences including causing financial loss to the state and stealing.
Ms Tamakloe-Attionu had appealed against the conviction and the decision to try and sentence her in absentia, arguing that the charges against her were defective and that the prosecution did not provide enough evidence to support the allegations.
She was extradited from the United States to Ghana on June 9, 2026, and began serving her 10-year sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison on June 24, 2026.
The former MASLOC boss had travelled to the United States in 2021 for medical treatment with permission from the High Court but failed to return while her trial was ongoing.
The Court of Appeal has now set aside the previous convictions, clearing her of all charges.
