Dennis Miracles Aboagye, former Presidential Staffer and spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to urgently provide practical solutions to Ghana’s recurring flooding crisis.
According to him, the situation in Accra is becoming increasingly alarming, with heavy rains consistently leaving multiple communities submerged and infrastructure overwhelmed. He warned that the capital is “under siege,” as new areas are affected each time it rains, adding to already flood-prone neighbourhoods.
His remarks come in response to President Mahama’s recent comments that human behaviour contributes significantly to the flooding problem. The President noted that illegal structures in waterways and irresponsible actions by some individuals worsen the situation, stressing that enforcement measures are often misunderstood as inhumane, despite their long-term necessity.
However, Miracles Aboagye insists that Ghanaians are not only looking for explanations but immediate action.
“We need solutions to the flooding crisis. Tell us what you are going to do to protect us today, not in the future. Today’s rains must be survived first,” he said, expressing concern over the worsening weather conditions.
He further questioned the government’s preparedness, urging authorities to go beyond inspections and statistics to implement concrete emergency responses that can safeguard lives and property during ongoing rains.
With dark clouds gathering and fears of further downpours, he appealed for swift intervention, emphasizing that residents are anxious and expecting decisive action from leadership.
