Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has declared that he will never join any political party, insisting that his ambition to become President of Ghana will be pursued independently.

Speaking on 3FM Sunrise with host Eric Mawuena Egbeta on Friday, August 14, 2026, A-Plus said remaining outside the traditional party system would allow him to make decisions freely without political pressure.

He explained that the fear of losing elections often influences governments to prioritize party interests over national development.

“I will never be a member of any political party. The biggest problem we have in this country is the fear of losing elections. I want to be free and not scared of what I have to say or do with threats of not voting for me,” he said.

According to the Gomoa Central MP, an independent president would have the freedom to take tough decisions in the interest of the country without being controlled by party structures, supporters or financiers.

A-Plus, who won the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections, expressed confidence that his achievements in the constituency would convince Ghanaians to support his presidential ambition.

“When I wake up, the next thing I think about is how to become President of Ghana. I know I’ll be President of Ghana one day,” he stated.

He added that Ghanaians would eventually judge him based on his record and the transformation he brings to Gomoa Central.

A-Plus’ comments signal his intention to challenge Ghana’s long-standing political tradition dominated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with a possible presidential campaign centered on independence and his performance as a legislator.
