The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a combination of planned and emergency maintenance exercises for Friday, 17th April 2026, as engineers work to resolve multiple transformer faults that left several communities without power across the Accra West, Ashanti West, and Central Regions on Thursday.

The planned outages will begin at 9:00 am and continue through various periods depending on the scope of the repairs. ECG aims to enhance service reliability and address urgent network issues with the interventions.

In the Accra West Region, planned maintenance will disrupt power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Chorkor 31st, White House, Mamprobi Police Station, and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, an emergency maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, impacting Asonkore, Kwabenakwa, Taslima, Tewobaabe, Edubias, and other localities.

This action follows a series of transformer faults on Thursday, 16th April 2026. Power was interrupted in several locations, including Stadium Road, Odi Ahinkae, Amasaman Hongkong, and parts of Hearts Park in Accra West, while Ashanti West experienced outages in Adiebeha due to a faulty transformer near the Adiebeha Seventh Day Adventist Church. Additionally, the Central Region saw power loss in TV 3, Iron City (Kasoa South District) after a transformer failure.

ECG has assured customers that engineers are working tirelessly to replace the faulty transformers and restore service. The company apologized for the disruptions and emphasized that these maintenance exercises are critical for strengthening the long-term reliability of the power supply in the affected regions.
