A 26-year-old man, Ebenezer Frimpong, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service in Nkawie, Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at around 10:00 AM, when a police officer, Lance Corporal Joshua Denkyi, had parked the vehicle (registration GP 1131) near Nkawie Market to buy medication, leaving the engine running. Seizing the opportunity, Frimpong jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off with the armoured vehicle.
An immediate alarm was raised, prompting a swift response from the Ashanti Regional Command. A combined SWAT team, led by Inspector Benjamin Nartey, pursued Frimpong on the Abuakwa-Kumasi stretch. The high-speed chase lasted about 30 minutes before Frimpong was captured at Mim, near Abuakwa.
The stolen vehicle has been recovered, and Frimpong remains in police custody at the Abuakwa District Police Command. He has since been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department for further questioning.
