President John Dramani Mahama has instructed his office to secure a detailed report from the Fourth Estate following an exposé on procurement practices surrounding contracts awarded under the government’s Big Push programme.
At a recent dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at the Jubilee House, President Mahama acknowledged the media investigation, emphasizing that although his administration has only reviewed portions of the report, a thorough examination of the allegations will be carried out.
“While we have seen snippets of the investigation, I have directed my office to obtain the full report from the Fourth Estate and study the various claims,” the President said.
He further clarified that sole sourcing is permitted under Ghana’s current procurement laws, but stressed that open, transparent tendering processes are always preferred to ensure competitive pricing and value for money.
The Big Push programme, a flagship infrastructure project, has generated significant public interest. The government’s response to the exposé will be scrutinized by civil society groups and development partners alike.
The President assured that the government’s next steps will be guided by the full report from the Fourth Estate and the Ministry of Roads and Highways’ official response.
