Akufo-Addo Urges Mahama to Complete Agenda 111 Hospital
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals project to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
Speaking at the centenary anniversary of the Kyebi Government Hospital, the former president emphasized the importance of continuity in health system development. “Agenda 111 must be continued. Continuity, not disruption, is how health systems succeed. What was built must be maintained, what was started must be completed, and what was learned must not be lost. That is how progress is ensured,” he stated.
Akufo-Addo highlighted that the core objective of the Agenda 111 initiative was to provide affordable healthcare to all Ghanaians. “Agenda 111 was based on a simple but powerful principle: no Ghanaian, regardless of their location, should be denied access to quality healthcare. However, not every project was fully realized, and some facilities, although in advanced stages, could not be completed before our term ended,” he admitted.
In his remarks, the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, also called for urgent improvements to the Kyebi Government Hospital. “I am not the only one frustrated; the nurses and doctors there are equally frustrated. A hundred years later, there is still no scan machine or quality laboratory in Kyebi Hospital,” he lamented.
