The Northern Regional Special Operations Team has arrested 14 suspected drug peddlers during a special anti-drug operation conducted in parts of the Tamale metropolis and Nanton.
The operation, which took place on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., was led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku and involved 35 personnel.
According to police sources, the exercise formed part of efforts to clamp down on the sale and distribution of illegal drugs in the region.
Police first moved to Ward K, where eight suspects were arrested. They were identified as Zubelu Magawata, 25; Osei Kwame, 21; Yusif Yahaya, 19; Alidu Mujahid, 15; Appang Peter, 33; Yakubu Ibrahim, 19; Yakin Mohammed, 26; and Yusif Mohammed, 23.
During interrogation, police said one of the suspects, Yusif Mohammed, disclosed that his alleged boss was one Sulley Mohammed, popularly known as “Naa Sulley,” who resides in Nanton.
Acting on the information, the police team proceeded to Nanton, where they arrested the said suspect together with three other alleged associates. The suspects were identified as Fatawu Alhassan, 29; Salley Mohammed, 30; Mohammed Baba, 35; and Abdul Sammed, 26.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of ten boxes of Tramadol, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and two motorbikes.
The operation later extended to Lamashegu, where police arrested two more suspects in a red Toyota Camry with registration number DV E1174-2026. The suspects were identified as Abdul Razak, 26, and Abdul Rashid, 21.
All the suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
Police say the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court today to face charges.
The Northern Regional Police Command says further developments on the case will be communicated to the public.
