The Ghana Police Command and Staff College in Winneba in the Central Region is set to resume operations after more than 13 years of inactivity in admitting senior and mid-level police officers.

The reopening of the institution is expected to restore its core mandate of providing specialised training and capacity development for senior and middle-ranking officers of the Ghana Police Service.

The college is scheduled to receive about 500 officers on Friday as preparations are being finalised to welcome the new batch.

According to the Office of the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, the return of the college follows several interventions and support from government and key stakeholders aimed at reviving the institution.

Among those who contributed to efforts to restore the facility are former Effutu parliamentary candidate Dr James Kofi Annan, the Paramount Chief of Effutu, Neinyi Ghartey, Municipal Chief Executive Rev. Atta Mensah and other partners.

Ahead of the reopening, the Effutu Municipal Assembly has undertaken improvement works around the facility, including the provision of 26 streetlight bulbs and the deployment of artisans to support preparatory activities.

The Municipal Chief Executive has also pledged the Assembly’s commitment towards upgrading the shooting range, refurbishing some buildings and improving other facilities at the college.

The reopening is expected to strengthen police training and development while bringing renewed economic and social activity to the Winneba community.

Authorities have expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who supported efforts to bring the institution back into operation and hope the college will continue to contribute significantly to policing in Ghana.
