To celebrate International Women’s Day, the U.S. Embassy in Ghana is showcasing its support for women and their vital role in Ghanaian society.

This includes hosting the Women in Motion Film Festival from March 8-17 in collaboration with Alliance Française Accra and Goethe-Institute Ghana, which features films on various themes such as human rights, economic empowerment, motherhood, and women’s role in society and politics. The festival will also include panel discussions and a workshop for female film students by Ghanaian-American filmmaker, Ms. Akosua Adoma Owusu.

USAID Ghana Mission Director Kimberly Rosen will speak at an event focused on the growing role of women in international trade and cross-border transactions, highlighting the organization’s efforts to train over 300 women traders in the Integrated Customs Management System.

In addition, USAID will host a mini-fair for female-led agribusinesses in the Tamale region, connect them with information and resources, and facilitate nearly $193 million in financing for more than 25,000 agribusinesses in Ghana.

The American Corner Agbogba will host two U.S. Fulbright Scholars for a discussion on women, digital innovation, economic empowerment, and education with local entrepreneurs, activists, and high school students.

Lastly, as part of Flintlock 2023, U.S. Special Operations Command Africa will partner with the Ghana Armed Forces, Boresah Royal Foundation, and Daboya District Executives to conduct a medical outreach event and a women’s peace and security event in Daboya, Savannah Region, to provide medical treatment and deworming for local residents while empowering stakeholders to tackle challenges related to the unique needs of women in Ghanaian society.
