A heartbreaking accident on the Wa-Charia road in the Upper West Region has claimed the lives of a 2026 BECE candidate and his brother. The victims, Ibrahim Dienie Khalid, a Basic 8 student, and Seidu Mohammed Tofick, a Junior High School final-year student, both of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School, died on Sunday, May 3.

According to family sources, the brothers were riding a motorcycle from Charia to Wa to visit their examination centre ahead of the BECE, which began on Monday, May 4, when the tragic accident occurred.

The incident has plunged the Charia community and the school into deep mourning. In line with Islamic custom, the brothers were buried the same day. Ibrahim Abubakari Wangara, Upper West Region Correspondent, visited the Charia exam centre and observed an empty seat marked for one of the victims, bearing Index number 17.

The school authorities have declined to comment on the incident, pending official clearance from the Ghana Education Service.
