One person has died after a building collapsed in Accra’s North Industrial Area early Sunday, June 7, while rescue teams continue searching for others who may be trapped. The incident occurred around 4:25 a.m., prompting a major emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), police, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey confirmed the casualty and said operations are ongoing to rescue additional victims. Earlier, one survivor was pulled from the rubble and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Firefighters, supported by heavy machinery, are carefully removing debris while security agencies have sealed off the area to ensure safety. Residents reported being awakened by a loud crashing sound and joined responders in assisting with the rescue.
This collapse follows a similar deadly incident in Adenta days ago, raising fresh concerns over building safety in Accra. Authorities plan to investigate the cause once rescue operations are complete and the site declared safe.
