The Dormaa Central Municipal Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported a substantial rise in the number of fire incidents during the initial month of 2025.

During a dialogue with Station Officer II, Mr. Samuel Agyei, In charge of bushfires in the Dormaa Central Municipality, which also extends to Dormaa East and West, he implored contractors operating within the forests to exercise caution in their activities to prevent bushfires that could devastate the forests and other natural resources. He highlighted that, as of January this year, seven bushfires have been recorded across the three political divisions of Dormaa—three incidents in Dormaa Central, three in Dormaa West, and one in Dormaa East. Consequently, he stressed the necessity for farmers and the forestry commission to exercise vigilance when utilizing fire within the forests.

He conveyed his gratitude to the fire volunteers for their invaluable contributions to combating the blazes in all seven affected regions. He urged the public to refrain from igniting fires in the bush, as such activities are prohibited until further notice due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Mr. Samuel Agyei underscored the importance of precautionary measures to avert fire outbreaks, particularly bushfires. He emphasized the prohibition of activities such as burning farmland, hunting for bush meat, and cooking or roasting food on farms. Furthermore, he urged cooperation with fire volunteers rather than confrontation, to better combat bushfires. He insisted that any activities potentially leading to bush and domestic fire outbreaks during this period should be strictly forbidden to safeguard lives and property.
