In Moses’ encounter with the burning bush, one of the profound statements to glean wisdom from as you climb the ladder of life is, “Take it by the tail.”

This was an instruction God gave Moses after he asked Moses to cast down his staff and it turned into a snake. Moses had obeyed God, and the stick he cast down became a snake. He needed to take it back, and the Lord told him, “Take it by the tail.”

Upon that statement, I want to assure you that it is unwise to always approach life head-on. It is not advisable to always be straightforward and confrontational. Sometimes, learn to take it by the tail.

If Moses had gone straight for the head, he would have been bitten by the snake, even though he was in the presence of God. There are many people who, in the name of faith, have carelessly made wrong decisions and have paid dearly for it. There are also those who, in the name of confidence, have said or done what they should never do. Others have also stood out blindly in the name of truth or justice and met their deepest regrets, even at the cost of their lives.

The Bible says there is a time for everything. Don’t let your life be too predictable. Don’t say that is who you are so you will always make your voice known, express your emotions, jump to conclusions, be confrontational, take unnecessary and uncalculated risks, etc. Bravery is not carelessness.

If you learn to use wisdom rather than blind faith, vain confidence, and uncalculated risk, you will save yourself a lot of trouble and achieve progress rather than quick success with too many sorrows. Wise Solomon advised,

“Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.” (Eccl. 10:10 NLT).

Sharpening your blade will take time, patience, and effort, but Solomon says that’s the value of wisdom. Success is always assured when you take life by the tail.
