Stop sending children on errands to buy cigarettes and alcoholic beverages – Parents and Guardians cautioned

Parents and guardians have been urged to refrain from sending schoolchildren on errands to purchase alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, marijuana, and other substances that are detrimental to children’s health and pose potential threats to their lives.

Addressing journalists at the climax of the Catholic Education Week Celebration in Dormaa Ahenkro, located in the Bono Region, Nana Attah Yeboah Brobbey, the Deputy Director of Finance and Administration, who represented the Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Education, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Dwamena Asante, underscored the notion that educating our youth is a shared responsibility among parents, teachers, and the government, aimed at cultivating exemplary future citizens for the nation. He stressed the importance of parents embodying socially and morally commendable conduct within society and their homes to provide a superior model for their children to emulate.

He cautioned children against complying with their parents’ requests when it involves purchasing alcohol, marijuana, cigarettes, and other harmful substances. He emphasized that parents should refrain from sending their children on such errands to prevent potential hazards in their children’s lives.

In his remarks, the Dormaa Central Catholic Schools Coordinator and the Headteacher of Dormaa Ahenkro R/C ‘A’ JHS, Mr. Francis Yaw Gyabaa, lamented the neglect parents show towards their children after enrolling them in school. He stressed that some parents disregard the needs of their wards once they are on the school premises, a situation he finds troubling and insists must be addressed promptly.

Regarding the matter of human rights and freedom, which has led educators to abstain from administering corporal punishment in schools, Mr. Francis Yaw Gyabaah urged students not to exploit the prohibition of corporal punishment as an excuse to flout school regulations and disregard teachers’ directives, thereby exhibiting behavior that could jeopardize their future lives.
