Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has commissioned two 6-unit classroom blocks at Naro and Guree and provided 16,584 school uniforms to pupils in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region. The intervention, facilitated through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), aims to improve learning conditions and promote discipline in schools.
The uniforms will benefit 7,884 boys and 8,700 girls across 151 basic schools in the district. Speaking at a short ceremony on Monday, June 8, 2026, Bagbin emphasized that uniforms reduce socioeconomic differences, promote equality, and encourage discipline among students.
He noted that adherence to a common dress code fosters respect for teachers, peers, and institutions, while also helping learners focus on academics by minimizing distractions related to fashion and personal appearance. Drawing from his own experiences, Bagbin lamented the decline in professional appearance among educators after teacher uniforms were discontinued, stressing the role of proper attire in setting positive examples.
The Speaker also expressed concern over pupils attending school in worn-out or ill-fitting uniforms, describing it as a reflection on both parents and national leadership.
Nadowli-Kaleo MP, Anthony Sumah Mwinkaara, praised Bagbin’s intervention as timely, noting it would improve attendance and learning outcomes. Meanwhile, District Chief Executive, Mary Haruna, called for a collective effort from government, parents, teachers, and the community to address declining educational standards, particularly in BECE performance.
