During his State of the Nation Address, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo addressed concerns over the alleged misuse of Covid-19 funds, stating that the funds were appropriately used for their intended purpose.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the public’s trust and confidence during the pandemic crisis, and mentioned measures such as tax relief for frontline health workers and subsidies for electricity and water tariffs for Ghanaians.
This statement follows a recent audit report by the Auditor-General, which highlighted some questionable spending. For example, senior management staff at the Ministry of Information paid themselves a COVID-19 risk allowance, while the Ministry of Health entered a contract for 26 ambulances that remained undelivered as of November 2022.
Despite these findings, the President maintained that no dishonourable actions were taken with Covid funds.
