Tragedy struck on the morning of Saturday, March 25, when a commercial Hyundai grace vehicle with registration number GB 4642-20 travelling from Juapong towards Accra got involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming truck with registration number GT 6473 21 fully loaded with railway lines, resulting in six fatalities on the Akuse-Kpong road.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at the King David Commercial College between Akuse and Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality when the Hyundai grace vehicle attempted to overtake a stationary truck and collided with the oncoming truck.
Rescue operators consisting of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, Ambulance Service, and the Akuse Police rushed both the dead and injured to the Akuse government hospital, where medical officers at the hospital confirmed the deaths of the six passengers.
Reports indicate that two males and four females who were involved in the accident are currently receiving medical attention at the Akuse Government Hospital, with two of them in critical condition.
The tragic incident resulted in a gridlock for several hours on the road, with the police taking control of the situation and beginning investigations into the cause of the accident.
