Kwesi Krampah, a 53-year-old security officer, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison with hard labour by the Tema Circuit A court for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

According to the Prosecuting Officer, Chief Inspector Barnabas Nifanting, the accused, who works at a company near the victim’s house, lured her into his security post under the pretence of showing her something.

Once she was inside, he pushed her onto a broken chair, covered her mouth, and inserted his finger into her vagina, making an unsuccessful attempt to also insert his penis.

The victim, who had been sent to buy meat by her mother, returned home late and in tears, revealing the incident to her father, who subsequently reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (Dovvsu).

The accused warned the victim not to tell anyone and offered to pay her GhC100.00 at the end of September 2022.

However, following an investigation and medical examination, he was charged with the offence and pleaded guilty before the court presided over by Ms Agnes Opoku Banie.

The accused’s workplace is situated on a footpath used by the victim and her father, who lives in Dawhenya.

Chief Inspector Nifanting highlighted that the victim had torn her slippers and sat under a tree across from the accused’s security post while eating the meat she had purchased. It was at this point that the accused lured her into his security post, leading to the sexual assault.

The court’s sentence highlights the seriousness of sexual offences and the need to protect children from abuse.

It is a reminder to all individuals to respect the rights and dignity of others, particularly children, who are often the most vulnerable members of society.
