President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced a slight increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2024/2025 crop season, raising it from GH₵3,000 to GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag. This adjustment represents a 0.03% increase from the rate set in September, aimed at improving the earnings of cocoa farmers amid challenging market conditions.
The announcement was made during the National Farmers’ Day awards held in Accra on Friday, November 8, 2024. President Akufo-Addo explained that this price adjustment is part of a broader initiative to align cocoa prices with market trends and support farmers’ incomes.
“I have directed the Minister for Agriculture to ensure regular price adjustments that reflect global market trends and local realities,” the President said.
2024 National Best Farmer Awarded to Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong
At the same event, Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong, a 70-year-old farmer from the Sekyere Central District in the Ashanti Region, was named the National Best Farmer for 2024. Recognized for his exceptional contributions to agriculture, Nana Owusu was awarded a cash prize of one million Ghana cedis, along with other incentives. His dedication to farming has had a significant impact on the agricultural sector in Ghana.
In his acceptance speech, Nana Owusu emphasized the importance of bolstering local food production to secure Ghana’s food security and reduce dependence on imports. “We must prioritize local production to ensure food security and strengthen our economy,” he said.
