Twenty-four suspects have been arrested in an ongoing intelligence-led operation aimed at clamping down on criminal activities and enhancing public safety in the Ashanti Region.
The operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, targeting suspected drug peddlers and other criminal elements across Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour.
According to a police statement issued on Monday, July 6, the operation led to the arrest of 24 suspects—21 males and 3 females.
Those arrested include Richmond Okyere, 49, who was found in possession of a pump-action gun with serial number 21GN-1918, along with others identified as Mark Appiah Kubi, Nkrumah Zakaria (23), Paul Addo (62), Louis Samba (26), Azupeh Kelvin (28), Stephen Opoku (24), Fredrick Boakye (20), Frimpong Yiadom (33), Dennis Owusu (21), Alfred Agyeman (25), Owusu Davis (24), Kwaku Agyemang Duah (35), Akwasi Amankwah (35), Solomon Asamoah (27), Bushiru Alhassan (19), Juliana Vivor (17), Douglas Osei (28), Kwabena Aikins (38), Osman Ibrahim (31), Amponsah Emmanuel (40), Kwabena Fosu (39), Ama Pokuah (35), and Musah Haruna (32).
Items retrieved during the operation include an unregistered Toyota Highlander, an unregistered Toyota Camry, a Mercedes-Benz with registration number AS 8724-Z, an unregistered motorcycle, a pump-action gun, seven rounds of AAA cartridges, a high-security safe, 489 suspected cannabis leaves, sealed narcotic packages, Tramadol tablets, Royal 225mg tablets, narcotic processing materials, bottles of Femude drink suspected to be laced with drugs, locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotics, a laptop, television sets, African Viagra boxes, lighters, crushers, ash residue, and cash suspected to be proceeds of drug sales.
All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while all exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes. The police say those found culpable will be arraigned before court after investigations are completed.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations to combat drug-related offences, violent crime, and other forms of criminal activity. The public has also been encouraged to continue supporting law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or official emergency channels.
