Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has reportedly requested additional backroom staff following a meeting with the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The meeting, which centered on a technical review of Ghana’s disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, saw the 47-year-old coach addressing the reasons behind the team’s failure to secure a tournament spot. Ghana finished at the bottom of Group F, managing just three points without a single win in six games—a setback that marks the first AFCON absence for the nation in two decades.

Despite the underwhelming performance, Addo is expected to continue as head coach as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. To strengthen the team’s chances, he has appealed for reinforcements to his current backroom team, which includes John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann, and Fatawu Dauda.

Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers resume in March 2025 with matches against Chad and Madagascar, making the next few months crucial for rebuilding and re-strategizing.

The GFA has yet to make an official statement on Addo’s request, but his future with the national team appears to remain intact despite the AFCON setback.

What are your thoughts on this development? Should Otto Addo continue as Black Stars head coach, or is it time for a change? Let us know!
