Alhaji Harruna Rafik, the 1st Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Okaikwei Central Constituency, has alleged that he was violently assaulted by masked men following a mediation meeting on concerns surrounding ongoing polling station elections.
The meeting, chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary, was held at the residence of Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament Patrick Yaw Boamah to address a petition submitted by Alhaji Rafik regarding alleged irregularities in the constituency’s polling station elections.
Alhaji Rafik claims that immediately after leaving the meeting, he was confronted and attacked by approximately seven masked men. He says the assault occurred in the presence of constituency executives, right outside the MP’s residence.
He described his “only crime” as speaking out against election irregularities and advocating for transparency, fairness, and due process. The incident left him injured, and he is currently receiving treatment at the Lapaz Community Hospital. He has also reported the matter to the police.
Alhaji Rafik vowed that intimidation and violence would not deter him from defending the party’s integrity. He has called on both regional and national party leaders, as well as security agencies, to investigate the attack and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
