The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its much-publicised “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration today, Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Accra.
The protest, according to the party, is aimed at drawing attention to what it describes as threats to Ghana’s democratic governance, rule of law, and the independence of state institutions.
NPP supporters, party executives, and sympathisers are expected to converge at designated points before embarking on a march through parts of the capital. The party has stated that the demonstration will be peaceful and conducted in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
Ahead of the protest, the Ghana Police Service has announced security arrangements to ensure public safety, maintain order, and manage possible traffic disruptions along the route.
The party has also indicated that it will present petitions to key state institutions, including the Supreme Court, the Presidency, and Parliament, as part of its demands.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged participants and the general public to cooperate with security personnel and avoid actions that could disrupt the peace.
The demonstration comes amid heightened political discussions over governance and democratic accountability in the country.
