Nkoko Nketenkete Programme to Reach 60,000 Households”
In a bold step to boost household nutrition and support local poultry farmers, the government has set an ambitious target for the Nkoko Nketenkete programme. According to President Mahama, the initiative aims to reach 60,000 households across the country.
Speaking during the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA 2026), President Mahama emphasized the importance of the programme in ensuring food security and reducing household expenditure on protein sources. The initiative provides families with chicks, feed, and training to enable them to raise poultry sustainably at home.
“This programme is designed to empower our citizens, create employment, and improve nutrition at the household level,” President Mahama stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting local farmers and strengthening domestic food production.

The Nkoko Nketenkete programme is part of a broader Feed Ghana initiative, which encourages home gardening and small-scale livestock rearing to reduce dependence on imports and enhance food self-sufficiency. By targeting 60,000 households, the government hopes to create ripple effects in local economies, providing opportunities for entrepreneurship and income generation.
President Mahama concluded his address by appealing to communities to actively participate in the programme, stressing that sustainable food systems start with empowered households.
