The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has announced that it will begin the vetting of 56 parliamentary aspirants who have successfully filed their nomination forms. The vetting process will take place from April 3 to April 5, 2023, at the Regional Party Secretariat in Cape Coast.
The vetting process is in preparation for the 13th May Parliamentary primary, which will feature 20 of the 23 constituencies in the region. The vetting committee, constituted by the National Executive Committee (NEC), will comprise five members, including a representative from NEC, two from the Regional Executive Body, a Lawyer appointed by the NEC from the Legal Committee of the Party, and one member of the Regional Council of Elders. Frontline Constituency Executive Committee members will also be in attendance.
The vetting committee will determine the eligibility of all aspirants and communicate its decisions to each aspirant after the vetting. Qualified aspirants will ballot for positions on the ballot paper immediately after the vetting process.
Aspirants who have issues with the vetting process or decision can appeal to the Appeals Committee from Monday 10th April to Monday 17th April 2023. All aspirants will be required to sign a declaration form to commit to accepting the outcome of the vetting and the primary without resorting to legal or court litigation.
The Central Regional Secretary of the NDC, Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams, has assured all aspirants of a level playing field to ensure that the election outcome reflects the true wishes and aspirations of the delegates and the entire membership of the NDC in the region.
