Ghana’s Energy Minister Dreams of Vice President Bawumia as President
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Ghana’s Energy Minister, has expressed his long-standing desire to see Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia become President of Ghana.
Since their first meeting in 2012, Dr. Prempeh, also known as NAPO in political circles, has been a strong supporter of Dr. Bawumia and believes that Ghana needs a leader with his intelligence and vision.
Dr. Prempeh made these comments during an interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM, where he clarified that he has never aspired to be Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.
He emphasized that his goal has always been to support Dr. Bawumia’s work and promote his candidacy for the presidency.
While he acknowledged that some people have accused him of lobbying to become Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, Dr. Prempeh dismissed these claims, noting that Dr. Bawumia has not yet declared his intention to run for president.
He expressed concern about the spread of misinformation and the tendency of some individuals to resort to personal attacks during internal contests.
Dr. Prempeh stated that he does not subscribe to politics of insults and believes in respectful discourse. He emphasized that he will never forget if someone insults him, and that he will not engage in negative campaigning.
