The Mion Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulaiman Abubakar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
In a letter dated Saturday, August 8, 2026, and addressed to the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Mr Abubakar officially announced his decision to step down, describing his resignation as a personal one.
“My resignation is personal,” he stated.
The former constituency chairman expressed appreciation to the Council of Elders, party patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as members and supporters of the party for the confidence and support they gave him during his tenure.
Mr Abubakar, however, reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP, stating that he remains a dedicated member of the party and will continue to contribute to efforts aimed at recapturing political power in 2028.
“I remain an ardent and good-standing member of the party and will continue to discharge my role as a member to ensure we recapture power in 2028,” he said.
He wished the constituency leadership success and indicated that he would maintain contact with the party.
The letter did not disclose the specific reason behind his resignation.
His decision comes barely two weeks after he was declared winner of the NPP’s Mion Constituency elections.
