On February 28th, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration hosted the annual exchange of New Year’s greetings for members of the Diplomatic Corps at Peduase Lodge in Aburi. The event, held annually, aims to promote goodwill and strengthen bonds of friendship between Ghana and other countries, as well as international organizations.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo welcomed the diplomatic corps and assured them of Ghana’s readiness to continue promoting cordial and fruitful relations with their respective countries for mutual benefit. The President expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown to Ghana by the various represented governments, including Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, India, Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and others, in various areas.
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, thanked the diplomats for their support in Ghana’s successful bid for non-permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council. She noted that the event provided an opportunity for the global community to reaffirm Ghana’s interest in partnering with countries and regional bodies to address issues of global concern, such as human insecurity, climate change, the post-COVID era, the twin effects of the Russian Ukraine war, and progress towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Amb. Pingrenoma Zagre, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation with Ghana for sustained development and mutual gains. He commended Ghana’s efforts to contribute to peace and security in its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and applauded Ghana’s contributions to promoting continental and regional trade and investment through the AFCFTA mechanism.
The event was attended by government officials, including H.E. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and other dignitaries.
