Great Olympics Claims Victory over Hearts of Oak in the Ga Mantse Derby of Ghana Premier League

Great Olympics broke their recent spell of poor form by securing a victory against their rivals Hearts of Oak in the Ga Mantse derby in the Ghana Premier League. The Dade Boys won a narrow 1-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium, ending their four-match winless streak.

Samuel Abbey Ashie-Quaye’s second-half penalty was the decider of the game, securing a crucial win for the newly appointed coach Bismark Kobi-Mensah. This victory marked Kobi-Mensah’s first match in charge, replacing Yaw Preko a week ago until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Olympics’ dominance over the Phobians continues, having not lost to them in the Ghanaian top tier since November 2020 when they were beaten 4-0. This win makes it six consecutive games without defeat against Hearts in the city derby.

The only goal of the match came in the 53rd minute when Samuel Abbey Ashie-Quaye converted a penalty kick after Michael Osei was fouled inside the box by Glid Jeordon Otanga Mvouo. The Wonder Club played the final two minutes with ten men after defender Ebenezer Sekyere was sent off for receiving a second booking.

With back-to-back losses, Hearts of Oak is now placed sixth on the league table with 28 points from 19 matches, trailing the league leaders by eight points. Olympics, on the other hand, moved two places up to 12th position and are now five points clear of the relegation zone.

Hearts of Oak will play their next game against their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko SC this Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
