The Omanhen of the Mankessim Traditional Area and President of the Mankessim Traditional Council, Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, has expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic outlook ahead of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.
Speaking during his Stool Purification ceremony at the Pakesedo Events Centre in Mankessim on Wednesday, July 22, the traditional leader said although he was yet to know the details of the Finance Minister’s upcoming statement, he believes the economy has recorded some level of stability.
According to Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, his experience as a businessman shows that market conditions have improved, with prices of foodstuffs and other essential commodities becoming relatively stable compared to previous years.
He attributed the improvement to the stability of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar and the reduction in inflation, which he said have positively affected businesses and workers’ purchasing power.
The Omanhen revealed that some of his employees have seen their salaries increase from about GH¢1,800 to over GH¢2,500 due to the improved economic environment.
“I don’t know what the Finance Minister will say in the Mid-Year Budget, but from my perspective as a businessman, the economy has stabilised. Prices are no longer increasing the way they used to, and the cedi has become more stable against the dollar,” he said.
He however expressed hope that the Mid-Year Budget Review would introduce more measures to reduce the cost of living, support businesses, and improve the welfare of Ghanaians.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is expected to present the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, outlining the government’s economic performance and plans for the remaining part of the fiscal year.
