Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is expected to present the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament today, Thursday, July 23.

The presentation will provide an update on Ghana’s economic performance in the first half of the year and outline government’s fiscal plans for the remaining months of 2026.

The review is expected to assess the country’s progress against the targets set in the 2026 Budget, which focused on moving the economy from macroeconomic stabilisation toward sustained growth while maintaining fiscal discipline.

Economic indicators show positive trends

Ahead of the presentation, government is expected to highlight improvements in key economic areas, including a decline in inflation to 5.3%, continued fiscal consolidation, improved external sector performance, stronger debt sustainability, and overall macroeconomic stability.

Dr. Ato Forson is also expected to provide updates on revenue mobilisation, public spending, debt management, and financing strategies for the second half of the year.

No new taxes expected

The Mid-Year Budget Review is not expected to introduce new taxes, as government is likely to maintain its current tax policies while focusing on the implementation of existing fiscal measures aimed at sustaining economic stability and supporting growth.

Update on post-IMF economic strategy

The Finance Minister is also expected to brief Parliament on Ghana’s transition from the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Credit Facility Programme to the Policy Coordination Instrument, which will guide future economic reforms and policy coordination.

The update is expected to outline government’s strategy for maintaining fiscal discipline after the completion of the IMF-supported programme.

Businesses and investors watching closely

The Mid-Year Budget Review remains a key economic statement, with businesses, investors, and development partners expected to pay close attention to government’s spending priorities, borrowing plans, and economic outlook.

Key areas of interest include inflation trends, interest rates, exchange rate stability, government borrowing, public expenditure adjustments, and economic growth projections.

The presentation is expected to influence economic decisions and shape expectations for the rest of 2026.
