President John Dramani Mahama has announced changes to his ministerial team, nominating two Members of Parliament for ministerial positions and reassigning two serving ministers to new portfolios.
In a statement dated Friday, August 7, 2026, the President, acting under Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, submitted the names of the nominees to Parliament through the Speaker for approval.
The Klottey Korle MP, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. She is expected to take over the portfolio previously held by the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who died in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in August 2025.
Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has also been nominated as the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to approval by Parliament.
As part of the changes, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence.
The current Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has also been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The reshuffle is expected to take effect after Parliament completes the vetting and approval process for the newly nominated ministers.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications.
