Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Randy Abbey, has revealed that the first name that comes to people’s minds when the Black Stars fail is the president of the association, Kurt Okraku.

He made this statement as part of his justification for the payment of bonuses to national team management committees.

There was an uproar when it was revealed that each member of the Black Stars Management Committee received $100,000 for Ghana’s participation in the 2024 World Cup.

Abbey made these remarks when he appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, which is probing the petition it received from the leaders of the Save Ghana Football Demonstration.

“When the Black Stars fail, they fail to perform. What’s the first name that is mentioned? It’s the GFA president, even before people start talking about the coach and the players.

“I mean, there are people who don’t even know who the masseur, the official, or the assistant coach of the national team is.

“People hold others responsible when there’s failure; why should these individuals not be recognized when there’s success?

“If you think it is okay to hold people accountable when there’s failure, why should it not be seen as okay to reward those individuals when there’s success?”
