Asante Kotoko claimed a 2-1 victory over Samartex in a highly competitive match held at Samreboi on Saturday. The Porcupine Warriors dominated the game in the first half, with Enock Morrison and Rocky Dwamena scoring in the 32nd and 41st minutes respectively, taking a comfortable two-goal lead before heading into halftime.
Although Samartex put up a strong second-half performance, they were only able to score a consolation goal late in the game.
The win lifted Asante Kotoko to third place in the league standings, providing them with a much-needed boost after losing to their fierce rivals, Hearts of Oak, in their previous match.
In another game played on Saturday, Tamale City secured a vital 3-1 home win against Dreams FC, increasing their chances of survival.
Sampson Eduku scored a brace for the home team, while Nafiu Sulemana added a third to seal the win at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Ali Huzaf’s penalty in the second half was Dreams FC’s only goal, which proved to be insufficient.
Tamale City is now in 16th place, just one point away from safety, while Dreams FC has dropped to 11th place in the league standings, having accumulated 27 points after playing 22 matches.
