I am committed to enhancing effective health services in Dormaa Central – Health Director

The Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr. Daniel Konka, has revealed his commitment to collaborating with traditional leaders and all relevant stakeholders to enhance the effective delivery of health services to the residents of Dormaa and its neighboring communities.

In a one-on-one discussion on GIFTs FM Morning Show, Mr. Daniel Konka, who assumed office as the Dormaa Central Municipal Director of Health Services on September 2, 2024, articulated his vision for advancing healthcare delivery across all facilities within his jurisdiction. He emphasized that the Dormaa health directorate operates in harmony with the directives of the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health. Nevertheless, as the director of health services, he has plans to augment and refine the healthcare system in Dormaa Central.

Highlighting the necessity for every individual to receive quality healthcare as part of the framework of the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health, Mr. Konka noted the World Health Organization’s policy known as the “Building Block,” which serves as the cornerstone of quality health service provision. He pledged to collaborate closely with all stakeholders, Nananom, and the general public to ensure the delivery of superior and effective health services for the populace, acknowledging that the government alone cannot achieve this.

He emphasized his commitment to working diligently within his capacity to ensure equitable distribution of healthcare providers across all healthcare facilities in Dormaa Central, ensuring that every community member receives optimal health care when needed.

Mr. Daniel Konka, while analyzing the doctor-to-patient ratio within the health system in Dormaa Central, lamented the woefully inadequate ratio in the Dormaa Central Municipality.

He emphasized that, after conducting a human resource gap analysis, he discovered that Dormaa Central requires slightly over 100 additional health personnel to align the doctor-to-patient ratio with the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). He unveiled the challenges contributing to this deficiency, including accommodation issues that sometimes force doctors and nurses to abandon their posts.

Consequently, he has engaged local leaders, Nananom, to intervene, suggesting that affluent individuals could construct affordable housing for nurses to retain these healthcare practitioners when they are assigned to Dormaa and its surrounding communities.

In addressing the concerns regarding the mortality rate among expectant mothers in Dormaa Ahenkro, which were highlighted during the recent annual performance review of the directorate, he noted that many of these cases are referrals to the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital. Unfortunately, delays in the arrival of these referred patients often lead to tragic outcomes.

He noted that he is diligently working towards the establishment of a comprehensive family health initiative that will integrate all healthcare providers within the facilities across Dormaa Central, Dormaa East, and Dormaa West. This initiative aims to ensure swift assistance and a prompt response to emergency referrals, thereby reducing the mortality rate moving forward.
