Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak are nearing a deal to sign former Ghana international midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, reports indicate. The 34-year-old is expected to join the Phobians on a short-term contract as they strengthen their squad for the second half of the ongoing season.

Wakaso, renowned for his combative playing style and precise passing, has been without a club since parting ways with Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC in January 2024. However, the experienced midfielder briefly returned to Shenzhen in mid-2023 following a loan stint with Belgian side KAS Eupen, where he featured in 10 matches across all competitions.

Having played for top European clubs such as Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic FC, and Deportivo Alaves, Wakaso brings a wealth of experience and quality. His potential arrival is anticipated to provide much-needed leadership and skill to the Hearts squad as they push for a competitive finish in the league.

Wakaso’s international career is equally remarkable. Since making his debut for the Black Stars on October 13, 2012, he has earned 70 caps, scoring 13 goals. He has represented Ghana in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, making him a seasoned veteran on both domestic and international stages.
