The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the landmark three-tier Suame Interchange Project in the Ashanti Region is on track for full completion by 2028.

Providing a phased update on the infrastructure, the project contractor revealed that the Suame Post Office overpass section is expected to be finished much earlier, with a target date of late 2026.

During a comprehensive site inspection covering the Suame Interchange, the Kumasi Outer Ring Road, and the Santase-Ahodwo-Asokwa dual carriageway, the Minister disclosed a significant financial boost for regional infrastructure.

The government has allocated an additional GHS 3 billion specifically for the construction of the Kumasi Outer Ring Road. This project is designed to drastically improve traffic logistics by connecting major routes, including Ejisu, Mampong, and Techiman Road.

The Honorable Agbodza dismissed any rumors regarding the misappropriation of funds, clarifying that no money had been diverted from the Suame Interchange. Instead, the GHS 3 billion represents fresh capital intended to complement existing projects and redirect traffic flow effectively.

To ensure project continuity, the Minister confirmed that the government has cleared several high-value outstanding payments:
$29.5 million paid to the Suame Interchange contractor for outstanding arrears.
$78 million paid in overdue certificates for the Kasoa-Winneba road project.

The Minister noted that while projects like the Suame Interchange, Kasoa-Winneba Road, and Ofankor were not originally part of President Mahama’s “Big Push” initiative, they were subsequently adopted due to their critical importance in providing relief to Ghanaian motorists.

Work is also reportedly advancing on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, which is currently in the stages of feasibility studies, design finalization, and site clearing. Concurrently, developments are moving forward at the Santase roundabout, Ahodwo, and Asokwa roads.

”Asanteman roads fall squarely within President Mahama’s scope, and we are making every effort to ensure their timely completion for the benefit of the region,” Hon. Agbodza reaffirmed.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed his appreciation for the central government’s focus on the region, commending both the President and the Roads Minister for prioritizing local infrastructure.

Offering a specific timeline for local commuters, James Osei Brown, CEO of Joshob Construction, reported that the Asokwa road stretch to the Ahodwo roundabout is currently 20% complete. He expressed confidence that this particular section will be fully operational by September this year.
