The Government has announced that it will absorb 36 pesewas on the price of petrol and GHC2.00 on diesel, starting April 16, 2026, in a bid to alleviate the impact of rising fuel prices due to global market fluctuations.
A statement signed by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu outlined that the price of petrol will decrease by GHC0.36 per litre, while diesel will be reduced by GHC2.00 per litre.
“This intervention is designed to ease the financial burden on households, transport operators, and businesses,” the statement, dated April 15, 2026, explained. The decision was approved by Cabinet and is in response to the recent increases in global petroleum prices, which have sharply affected ex-pump prices in Ghana.
The government confirmed that this temporary measure will remain in effect for one month, during which time it will closely monitor global oil market trends and evaluate the need for additional adjustments.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu assured Ghanaians that the Government remains committed to ensuring price stability, safeguarding livelihoods, and supporting the country’s economic recovery amid external challenges.
