The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Volta Region has intercepted 20 foreign nationals who entered the country without valid documentation. The group, consisting of individuals from Niger, Nigeria, and Togo, claimed they were using Ghana as a transit route to the Ivory Coast.
Although the individuals insisted that Ghana was not their final destination, immigration authorities are skeptical of their accounts. According to Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Peter Yaw Nkrumah, the individuals will be deported to their point of entry as per immigration regulations.
“These individuals are travelers, with some coming from Northern Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger. However, their stories are inconsistent,” Nkrumah told Citi News. “Some say they are heading to Madina, while others claim they are going to Côte d’Ivoire. Given that Aflao is the primary entry point to the Ivory Coast, they should have been traveling through Sogakope, but they were intercepted at Asikuma.”
He added, “Since their accounts are conflicting and they lack proper documentation, we suspect they are not being truthful. The best course of action is to return them to the point where they originally entered the country.”
