Ghana to Get Its First True Expressway with Eight Interchanges
Today, during the delivery of the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Mahama announced a major infrastructure milestone for Ghana. The Accra–Kumasi expressway is set to feature eight interchanges, making it the country’s first true expressway.
The project, aimed at improving connectivity between the nation’s capital and the Ashanti Region, is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities along the corridor. President Mahama emphasized that the expressway would not only facilitate smoother transportation for commuters but also attract investment opportunities in regions along the route.
“This expressway represents a key step in modernizing Ghana’s road network and enhancing national development,” President Mahama stated.
The announcement has been met with widespread optimism, as citizens and businesses alike anticipate the positive impact the new expressway will have on trade, mobility, and regional growth.
