Ghana has a new Country Manager for the African Development Bank (AfDB), as announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Mr. Ablakwa expressed his honor in receiving the open letters of Halima H. Hashi, the newly appointed Country Manager, and officially welcomed her to Ghana on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. In his remarks, he conveyed Ghana’s profound respect and appreciation for the significant role the AfDB has played in the country’s development since opening its office in Ghana in 1973.

The Foreign Minister also extended gratitude to the African Development Bank for its support in the government’s flagship projects, including the Big Push, Feed Ghana, Eastern Corridor Road, AI initiatives, and irrigation interventions. “Ghana proudly acknowledges the AfDB’s current investment portfolio, which includes approximately US$1.3 billion in active projects,” he said.

He further assured that President John Dramani Mahama, in his capacity as African Union Champion for African Financial Institutions, would continue to offer his invaluable leadership as he advocates for financial sovereignty and the retention of African reserves on the continent to address Africa’s infrastructure deficit.

“A warm Ghanaian welcome to our Tanzanian sister. I wish her a successful and transformative tenure,” Mr. Ablakwa shared on X.
