Four illegal miners have lost their lives following the collapse of a galamsey pit at Skuumu near Gyaman-Nkwanta in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region. The tragic accident occurred around 4:00 PM on Wednesday, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

Reports indicate that the abandoned and depleted mining site had recently been handed over to Logist Group Company Limited for reclamation. However, the victims reportedly sneaked into the area to carry out illegal mining activities when the pit suddenly caved in, trapping them underground.

Security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, responded promptly, and an excavator was later used to recover the bodies of the deceased.

The group was led by Solomon Amadevor, while the identities of the three other victims are yet to be officially confirmed as investigations continue.

Residents have described the tragedy as heartbreaking, highlighting once again the grave risks associated with illegal mining in the country.
