Dr. Charles Ntom, a senior specialist at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital who doubles as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist) has called on all Ghanaians to put in efforts to eliminate illegal and unregulated mining practices to ensure the avoidance of potential health risks.
Dr. Charles Ntom made this appeal at the Heroes of the Region Conference organized by Widows Connect Africa to honor heroes within the Bono Region. During his speech, he noted that illegal mining operations in Ghana poses significant threats not only to the environment but also to public health hence urging the people of Ghana to take decisive action to eliminate these unregulated mining practices.
He emphasized that the potential health risks associated with Galamsey, which include contamination of water sources with toxic chemicals such as mercury and cyanide, can have disastrous effects on communities, affecting maternal and child health significantly emphasizing that it is important to address the Galamsey menace to safeguard the well-being of current and future generations.
Mr. Prince Adu Berchie Antwi, the Executive Director of Widows Africa, highlighted the significant challenges faced by widows in developing countries such as Ghana, particularly concerning feeding and livelihood.
He emphasized that Widows Connect Africa has decided to organize an awards ceremony to honor diligent individuals in the Bono Region. This initiative aims to solicit support from them for Widows Connect Africa in its efforts to assist widows throughout Ghana and the broader African continent.
Mr. Collins Atta Poku, the Chief Executive Officer of Aduana Football Club located in Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region encouraged the youth of the nation to identify their talents and actively pursue them to benefit both their families and society at large. He further urged parents to support their children in realizing their talents and aspirations to foster a better future.
