Desist from gambling, excessive intake of alcohol and hard drugs to reduce the rate of bipolar in the country – Youths cautioned

 

Mr. Mahama Alhaji Asuma, a Mental Health Officer at the Dormaa Central Municipal Health Directorate in the Bono Region, elucidated the concept of bipolar disorder, describing it as a mental condition characterized by alternating depressive and manic states, often precipitated by depression and adverse circumstances.

During a discussion on GIFTs FM program dubbed NKWA HIA, chaired by Nana Yeboaa Asuamah, he urged the youth to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption, drug abuse, and gambling, which are significant contributors to bipolar disorder among young people, as well as issues stemming from broken homes or heartbreak.

 

Mrs. Linda Ama Aniwaah, also a mental health officer at the Dormaa Central Municipal Health Directorate emphasized the financial and occupational repercussions of bipolar disorder. She advised that the families of those afflicted should remain close, especially when the individuals express feelings of hopelessness, to prevent any potential suicidal actions.
